Congratulations Christine Cho

2019 5A Girl’s High School Golf State Champions

Congratulations to Christine Cho for helping her team win the 2019 Girl’s 5A State High School Championship for the second year in a row.  Christine is a sophomore at Eagle High School in Eagle, Idaho.  Christine finished the State Championship T6.

Christine was very disappointed in her play at State this year.  I was not.  Christine has a true passion for golf and a solid foundation of skills to take her game where she desires.  She works hard on her game, but as we all know hard work does not always translate to lower scores.

I’ve been coaching junior golfers for over a decade and experienced junior golf as a parent when my boys were young.  The only consistency I see in junior golf is how juniors grow and mature at different ages and rates.  The rate of growth and maturity never looks like a steady uphill climb.  There are always bumps in the journey.  In today’s world of looking your best on social media, pressure for scholarship money, and the expectations for instant change junior golfers struggle through their normal rate of growth and maturity.

I wish I could change the pressures they face.  I wish that colleges did not recruit juniors when they are so young and let them experience growth and maturity at their own pace.  Christine is a fine player.  She will meet her goals, just not as quickly as she would like.
