Congratulations to Paul Weyland Golf student Derek Lekkerkerk for winning the 2021 State of Idaho High School Golf Championship. He lead his team Twin Falls High School to win State by 20 strokes.
He posted a 3 under par 70 and had a 2 shot lead after round 1. On round 2, Derek posted a 4 over par 77 in 30 mph winds and won the individual state title by 6 shots.
Derek realized that round two would be a day of dealing with adversity in the cold, windy conditions. He knew that other players would make mistakes and struggle in the extreme conditions, so he stayed patient, present, and focused on the process. The result was him posting the low round of the day and a 6 shot victory.
