Great playing by Paul Weyland Golf Junior Academy students in 2015 high school districts

Congratulations to Paul Weyland Golf Junior Academy students Drew Lunt, Justin Higgins, Carson Barry, and Natalie Mullins for their fine play in the Idaho high school district championship tournaments on May 4th.

Drew and Justin, both seniors at Skyview High School in Nampa, Idaho, played in the 4A District III boys district championship tournament and both finished T1 (70) along with two other players.  Although Drew and Justin both birdied the first hole in a four way playoff, it wasn’t quite enough to beat a former State high school champion.  But I’m incredibly proud of Drew who got second place and Justin third.

Carson Barry, a freshman at Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian, Idaho, played in the 5A District III boys district championship tournament and finished 6th with a 72.

Natalie Mullins, a senior who plays golf for Eagle High School in Eagle, Idaho, played in the 5A District III girl’s district championship tournament, placed 4th with a 79.

Drew, Justin, Carson, and Natalie will all be representing their high school teams at the State championship tournament on Monday.  Good luck to all!

Shoot Lower Scores by Practicing With a Purpose

WANT TO SHOOT LOWER SCORES?

Here is a great article in Curious Coaches called, “Redefining Deliberate Practice.” Are you practicing by a determined amount of time? You might want to reconsider this and read this article that discusses the benefits of goal-oriented, object-driven practice sessions.  Practicing with a purpose will save you time, get better results, and will lower your scores!

Sign up for an assessment with me, and I’ll develop a practice plan for you.

Congratulations Paul Weyland Golf Students

Congratulations to Paul Weyland Golf Junior Academy students JT Bloomer, Justin Higgins, and Natalie Mullins for their fine play in last weekend’s RMJGT event at Ridgecrest Golf Club in Nampa Idaho.  JT Bloomer posted rounds of 73, 70 for a 1 under par total for a 3rd place finish.  Justin posted rounds of 76, 71 for a 3 over total and tied for 6th place.  Natalie posted rounds of 81, 82 and tied for 3rd.  All these juniors work very hard on all aspects of their game.  I am very proud of them, and all my students who played, not for the scores they post but for the fine young citizens they are.

Congratulations to Paul Weyland Golf Students for their recent fine play.

Congratulations to all the Paul Weyland Golf students who played in the recent Idaho State Junior Golf Championship. Not everyone played to the level they wanted, but after watching my students play over two full days I was proud to see how they all displayed great attitudes and professionalism even when they had poor stretches of play and faced adversity such as playing in 50 MPH winds. Learning every day is the most important part of this experience. The beauty of golf is that there is always another day, another shot, and the key is to stay in the process of learning and get a little better every day.

Some notable finishes were:
Carson Barry 1st place in the 14-15 year old division with rounds of 71, 70
Jake Slocum 3rd place in the 11-12 year old division with rounds of 39, 39
Natalie Mullins 4th place finish win the girls 16-18 division with rounds of 85, 79
Drew Lunt 10th place in the boys 16-18 with rounds of 78, 69

I also want to bring special attention to Paul Weyland Golf student, Carson Barry, who is one of the four players to represent Idaho in Portland, OR at the Hogan Cup. The Hogan Cup is a two day team event consisting of four players from eight different Western States and British Columbia. All the best to Carson and the entire Idaho team.
